Kormendy, J. 1987, in de Zeeuw 1987, p. 17.
A review is presented of recent studies of cores of elliptical galaxies. Two recent technical breakthroughs that have allowed reliable core photometry to be obtained are described, and recent work on core profile shapes is discussed. Characteristic parameter correlations are discussed, including the application to the problem of galaxy formation. The evidence for massive black holes in the nuclei of M31, M32, and NGC 3115 is assessed.
