Friends Go "Behind the Scenes"

Members of the Friends of Hawaii Astronomy and special guests were recently treated to an informal lecture by Beatrice Watson Parrent Postdoctoral Fellow Michael Liu. The by-invitation talk, "Discovery of a New Brown Dwarf Companion around a Sun-like Star: An Insider's View," was followed by lunch with Dr. Liu and Institute Director Rolf-Peter Kudritzki. Participants gained further insights into the brown dwarf discovery and other astronomy topics, in addition to getting to know the astronomers personally.

Director Kudritzki took the opportunity to announce that the Friends will be invited to the IfA periodically for special lunch talks and other "behind-the-scenes" events. If you would like information about joining the Friends, contact Joan Yanagihara at 956-6712 or joany@ifa.hawaii.edu.
