Meet Our New Graduate Students

Four new graduate students

From left to right: Jason Chu, Matt Zagursky, Gabriel Dima, and Mike Lum.

Four new graduate students began their studies at IfA in August. Gabriel Dima received his master's degree from the University of Cambridge in England. He says Hawaii is his perfect place for both work (astronomy) and play (surfing). Jason Chu received his degrees in physics and astrophysics from the University of California, Berkeley. He enjoys classical music and looks forward to pursuing his interest in photography in scenic Hawaii.

Michael Lum spent 12 years working as a software engineer at Apple Computer in California. He holds degrees in economics, mechanical engineering, physics, and mathematics. Matthew Zagursky received degrees not only in physics and mathematics, but also meteorology, from the University of Maryland, College Park. His other interests include storm (tornado) chasing, Legos, and website design and implementation.
