Frontiers of Astronomy November Lecture
Andrew Liddle, professor of physics and director of the Astronomy Centre,
University of Sussex, United Kingdom, will present the next Frontiers of
Astronomy Community Lecture on November 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the IfA Manoa
auditorium. His lecture will be "The Era of Precision Cosmology."
Recent astronomical observations have led to precision measurements of
several amazing properties of our Universe. One of these is that the expansion
rate of the Universe is accelerating rather than slowing down. In his talk,
Liddle will give an overview of our emerging understanding of the cosmological
properties of the Universe, while explaining that much of the physics underpinning
it has yet to be understood.
Liddle is the author of about 150 scientific papers and two textbooks.
He is fond of traveling and eating out, but has discovered that these activities
are not entirely compatible with caring for a two-year-old daughter.
