Manoa Open House To Kick Off AstroWeek 2006

Save these dates! The annual Open House at IfA Manoa will take place on Sunday, April 30, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The annual AstroDay at Hilo's Prince Kuhio Plaza will be the next Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both events are still in the planning stages, so check the respective Web pages, www.ifa.hawaii.edu/open-house/ and www.astroday.net/ for details in mid-April.

There is, however, one AstroDay-related event we can announce now. The AstroDay Institute, together with the University of Hawaii at Hilo Conference Center and the UHH  Physics and Astronomy Department, will sponsor the `Ohana Weekend Learning (OWL) May 5-7. This "astro-tour" is a collaboration with the Hawaii Tourism Authority's County Product Enrichment Program, which encourages educational tourism. The program will feature a private dinner with a noted Hawaii astronomer, a guided tour of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park led by a geologist, and unparalleled stargazing from the Big Island. A VIP AstroDay pass will be issued to each OWL participant to ensure pre-event access to all exhibits and displays. The program costs $395 per person, and includes lodging (double occupancy), ground transportation, meals and snacks, educational packets, activities, and entrance fees. For more information, contact Judith Fox-Goldstein at foxgolds@hawaii.edu or (808) 974-7555.
