VISITING MAUNA KEA
The Onizuka Center for International Astronomy Visitor Information
Station (VIS) at Hale Pohaku (9,300-foot level of Mauna Kea)
is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Public stargazing nightly from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.
“The Universe Tonight” features recent observations
and discoveries, 6:00 p.m., first Saturday of every month.
“Malalo I Ka Lani Po” features cultural aspects
of Mauna Kea, 6:00 p.m., third Saturday of every month.
Mauna Kea summit tours are available
on Saturdays & Sundays. Arrive at the VIS in your own four-wheel-drive
vehicle by 1:00 p.m. for orientation and acclimation.
