PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE

July 21, 2009

On July 21st between 5:15 and 6:25 pm a partial solar eclipse was visible from Hawaii.  Hundreds of people gathered outside of the Visitor Information Station to get a glimpse of this rare event.  Five telescopes with special solar filters were set up for safe viewing.  We also had solar viewing glasses available for purchase and materials around for people to make their own cardboard pinhole viewer.   Thanks to volunteers Deborah Oakley-Melvin, Njugu Gachugu, Gretchen Yarbrough, and Maury Shimizu for their enthusiasm and support.

The solar glasses really came in handy!                             One of the youngest people to view an eclipse!
